Our Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) terminal is one of the great procurement success stories for the Department of Defense. ViaSat answered the call in 1997 when the Navy opened the MIDS business to new vendors. The company fought an uphill battle against competitive teams with combined revenues and employee numbers an order of magnitude greater. ViaSat came from far behind those large prime contractors to solidify a role as an innovator in the MIDS marketplace. In a few short years the company helped cut the government cost of MIDS terminals by approximately fifty percent and brought significant technological improvements to the program as well. Now one of only two qualified vendors for MIDS airborne terminals, and the sole supplier for ground-based applications, sales from this business area accounts for about 20% of ViaSat annual revenues. |
