VSAT Agreement With Juch-Tech Inc. to Expand LinkStarS2A System

2009-04-13 -

Includes hub sale and relocation, 2,000 terminals, and upgrade to current customers.

Carlsbad, CA ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) has signed a $1.8 million contract with  Juch-Tech Inc. to expand services to Africa using a ViaSat LinkStar®S2A hub at its Hamilton Teleport, a Tier 1 teleport facility in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Juch-Tech purchased the Intelsat LinkStar VSAT hub located at the Ellenwood, Georgia Teleport, and will relocate that hub to the Hamilton Teleport. The contract supports expansion of Juch-Tech services in Africa with an upgrade to the LinkStar hub to include DVB-S2 Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), as well as the purchase of 2,000 ViaSat LinkStarS2A terminals.

“Moving to the LinkStarS2A system is a great way to expand our African services very cost-effectively. And we can also offer a simple S2 upgrade to our current customers,” said Walt Juchniewicz, president and CEO of Juch-Tech. “We have enjoyed a long relationship with ViaSat as a core technology provider.”

Together with DVB-S2 ACM, a comprehensive set of LinkStarS2A VSAT features enables both enterprises and service providers to deliver applications to customers with performance beyond industry standards:

  • ViaSat S2-ACM reduces downstream satellite bandwidth requirements by up to 63%
  • ViaSat-exclusive Dynamic Link Adaptation (DLA) provides operators even more improvements in performance reliability when satellite signal strength degrades
  • SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) security for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
  • Virtual Network Operator (VNO) and traffic performance reporting tools for providing many virtual networks from a single shared hub.

“The continued confidence that Juch-Tech has shown in ViaSat and our LinkStar S2-ACM technology is very gratifying and we look forward to growing the West Africa VSAT market together with Juch-Tech,” said Harry Stribos, ViaSat regional director for Africa.
